Music Theory – Answering a Given Rhythm with Claudia
In the Trinity College Grade 1 Theory Book we have a topic called Answering a Given Rhythm. Answering a rhythm can be easy if we remember that we have a “Question” that is a set of bars given to us in the beginning and we need to create an “Answer” to the rhythm. It can also be called the Call-and-Response and it is a certain style of musical writing that can make music sound interesting and keep it flowing.
The most important to remember when Answering a Given Rhythm for Grade 1 is:
- Look at the Time Signature
- Write the biggest note for the Time Signature in the last bar
- Borrow from the original rhythm but don’t copy it exactly. Write the notes in the bar that it left.
