Amelia is playing the Rainbow for the Eisteddfod and she is having some problems with fluency and the fermatas in the piece.
fermata – means to pause or to hold the note a bit longer than its original value. For example, we may hold down a minim note with a fermata for one crotchet beat longer instead of just the original two crotchet beats. However, it also goes about what type of idea need to be expressed when a fermata is given.
During our practice session, we took a look at how to play the fermatas as well as how to get the piece more fluent and fix areas where notes need to be held longer but is common for the young student to play the values shorter.
